Crescent of Disgrace

Ok, now I'm really pissed off.

Would somebody please tell me how the "Crescent of Embrace" is an appropriate monument to the brave Americans who defeated the Islamic terrorists aboard American Airlines flight 93 on 9/11/01.

What American thought this up? And more importantly, what American government officials have approved it thus far?

To say this is an outrage would be the understatement of the month. It's just like many have already said: having the crescent as the shape of this 9/11 monument would be like having a holocaust monument in the shape of a swastika.

RealClearPolitics put up images of the flags from several Islamic countries to show the similarities.

I saw over on Rhymes With Right that there's also plans to have a tower in the shape of a Muslim minaret as part of the memorial! I wonder if Gitmo's free Q'urans and prayer mats will be part of the memorial as well?

Captain Ed analyzed the idiotic rationale behind the design and opined about how a WW2 monument in the shape of the rising sun (the symbol on the Japanese battle flag) would have been received back in 1946. And he made another good post about the pacifist nature of having the Islamic crescent as our national monument.

The Politburo Diktat posted several quotes from the monument's designer to see if perhaps the perceived meaning may have been intentional.

The Pittsburgh Post-Gazette had a good article about it on Sunday, with quotes from the proposed monument's architect.

My personal favorite is from ZombieTime, he did an animated gif overlay of the monument with an Islamic crescent to show that the similarity is NO accident... it's way too accurate to have been unintentional. Anyhow, they also list the contact info for Paul Murdoch Architects and the National Park Service (the ones who make the final decision about the monument) so you can make your opinions heard to them. And, of course, you should contact your elected representatives to sound off about it, as well.

CNN lists this as being a done deal. I'm sure they hope it is. Little Green Footballs is saying there's still time to stop this.

So do something. Write some emails. Make some calls.

Don't let these asshats desecrate the Flight 93 crash site with the symbol of their murderers!
