A Day Without A Lawless Ingrate

dwai-1.jpg

Today is May 1st, and thousands (if not millions) of illegal immigrants and their supporters will participate in the "Day Without An Immigrant" boycott. The plan is for them to walk off the job and withdraw from buying goods and services in order to throw a giant organized tantrum and "demonstrate their worth to the US economy."

First off, let's get something straight. This is NOT about immigrants. And it's not about immigrants' rights.

It's about ILLEGAL immigrants!

And the fact that they want to circumvent U.S. law and be given special treatment and privileges. Nobody has issue with immigrants of all stripes coming here legally and applying for U.S. citizenship. But many Americans have problems with a large-scale invasion of foreigners flooding over our borders and demanding to dictate terms for their citizenship.

As a sidenote, I wonder if healthcare providers should participate in the boycott today and refuse services to illegal immigrants?

In light of today's blatant display of lawlessness, I thought it might be interesting to review some of that "value" that illegal immigrants bring to America. Now keep in mind, these figures are only about the Los Angeles community's illegal immigrants, your mileage may vary. (courtesy of Rick Roberts)

Not everyone breaking into America is coming here to pick lettuce and fulfill the American dream.

Here are some facts you should know:

40% of all workers in L.A. County (L.A. County has 10 million people) are working for cash and not paying taxes. This was because they are predominantly illegal immigrants, working without a green card.

95% of warrants for murder in Los Angeles are for illegal aliens.

75% of people on the most wanted list in Los Angeles are illegal aliens.

Over 2/3’s of all births in Los Angeles County are to illegal alien Mexicans on Medi-Cal whose births were paid for by taxpayers.

Nearly 25% of all inmates in California detention centers are Mexican nationals here illegally.

Over 300,000 illegal aliens in Los Angeles County are living in garages.

The FBI reports half of all gang members in Los Angeles are most likely illegal aliens from south of the border.

Nearly 60% of all occupants of HUD properties are illegal.

21 radio stations in L.A. are Spanish speaking.

In L.A.County 5.1 million people speak English. 3.9 million speak Spanish (10.2 million people in L.A.County).

(All 10 from the Los Angeles Times)

Less than 2% of illegal aliens are picking our crops but 29% are on welfare.

Over 70% of the United States annual population growth (and over 90% of California, Florida, and New York) results from immigration.

The cost of illegal immigration to the American taxpayer in 1997 was a NET (after subtracting taxes immigrants pay) $70 BILLION a year, [Professor Donald Huddle, Rice University].

The lifetime fiscal impact (taxes paid minus services used) for the average adult Mexican immigrant is a NEGATIVE.

29% of inmates in federal prisons are illegal aliens.

Just thought you should know.
Interesting stuff. I'd be interested to know if those numbers are consistent around the country.

If you find that your local convenience store (or any other business, for that matter) is short-handed today, you might want to think carefully about whether or not you want to come back tomorrow, when their illegal workers will be back on the job. Do you really want to support businesses who hire illegal immigrants?

Sounds to me like we might want to have a "boycott" of our own.

UPDATE: Michelle Malkin noticed a convenient list of businesses in today's news who appear to employ so many illegal immigrants that they may be closing today...
Some big businesses were shutting down operations: Six of 14 Perdue Farms plants will close; Gallo Wines in Sonoma, Calif., was giving its 150 employees the day off; Tyson Foods Inc., the world's largest meat producer, planned to shut five of its nine beef plants and four of six pork plants.

In Denver, El Centro Humanitario, a nonprofit set up to help day laborers, was closed Monday because its managers were helping organize a rally downtown expected to attract tens of thousands of people.
I wonder if ICE will be paying a vist to any of these companies tomorrow?

UPDATE: Dr. Rusty has a good one here.
Finish this sentence:
A day without illegal immigrants is like a day without...

UPDATE: Matt Welch of the L.A. Times takes issue with the figures in Rick Roberts' article (as does Snopes.com) and says that the paper will soon be reporting on it. (h/t: Metroblogging Los Angeles)
