Just what has to be done to please the American public? It's been 5 years since 9-11 and we've had no more terrorist attacks on American soil in that time. Not only that, but our intelligence agencies have foiled numerous terrorist attempts over the past few years.
So why do people keep second-guessing the CIA, the FBI, the NSA, and the Bush administration?
How often must they be right before they are given the benefit of the doubt and allowed to do their jobs?
Yesterday, we find out that 7 terrorists who were aligned with al Qaeda were arrested before they had a chance to implement their plans to murder Americans and blow up the Sears Tower. And still, I'm hearing buzz from some people complaining that we didn't "wait long enough" to let the terrorists actually arm themselves and get closer to putting their plans into motion. Why? How long must investigators sit on their hands until they act? You can bet your ass these same Monday morning quarterbacks would be blaming Bush and the FBI for not acting fast enough if these terrorists had managed to hurt or kill anyone. If these treasonous sumbitches have broken enough laws that our guys decided to go ahead and nab them now, that's good enough for me.
The charges they've already compiled are serious enough as it is: (h/t: Captain Ed)
"In order to obtain funding and support for the mission to wage war against the United States, Narseal Batiste and other conspirators attempted to obtain the support of al Qaeda," the document said.Well, we better be careful if that's the definition of a dangerous group. Because using that reasoning, over half the Democrat party would need to be arrested for treason.
"... the conspirators pledged an oath to al Qaeda and supported a purported mission of al Qaeda to destroy FBI buildings within the United States," it said.
The document said that Batiste wanted to "attend al Qaeda training, along with five of his soldiers, during the second week of April and further detailed his mission to wage a 'full ground war' against the United States in order to 'kill all the devils we can' ... beginning with the destruction of the Sears Tower."
The "jihad" was intended to be "as good or greater than 9/11," beginning with destruction of the 110-story tower and FBI buildings, according to court documents obtained Friday by CNN.
U.S. Attorney General Alberto Gonzales, in a news conference Friday, described the men as examples of "homegrown terrorists" who "may prove to be as dangerous as groups like al Qaeda" and who have come "to view their home country as the enemy."
Not necessarily a bad idea, if we even paid attention to the meaning of that word any more.
Speaking of treason, the New York Times just broke another story which outs a secret CIA program to spy on al Qaeda operatives here in America. (h/t: Michelle Malkin) Way to go, NYT. The only thing is, you forgot to quietly send your story to al Qaeda's leaders and instead published it in the papers for them to read along with everyone else.
Dear Osama,
It's been a few weeks since we chatted about that NSA program, but there's some news we thought you had the right to know. The CIA has a secret program to track your financial dealings here in America. So you might wanna change how you're going about your plans to murder Americans.
Hugs,
The staff of the New York Times
P.S. Oh and don't forget to spare us when you kill all the other infidels. Umm, go Allah!
It's futher testament to how hard our intelligence community must have to work in order to nab terrorists while treasonous dunderheads like the NY "We Don't Need No Stinking National Security" Times keep mucking things up and warning the enemy in advance.
Stephen Spruiell boils it down:
According to the NYT's own reporting, the program is legal. The program is helping us catch terrorists. The administration has briefed the appropriate members of Congress. The program has built-in safeguards to prevent abuse. And yet, with nothing more than a vague appeal to the "public interest" (which apparently is not outweighed in this case by the public's interest in apprehending terrorists), the NYT disregards all that and publishes intimate, classified details about the program. Keller and his team really do believe they are above the law. When it comes to national security, it isn't the government that should decide when secrecy is essential to a program's effectiveness. It is the New York Times.
National security be damned. There are Pulitzers to be won.
I'm just glad those violent Islamic nincompoops were stopped before any Americans were hurt or killed in their plans.
And by plans, I mean the plans of al Qaeda as well as the New York Times.
