That figure is staggering. And it's admirable that Sen. McConnell has tried to put this immense spending in a way the average American can better comprehend. But since we keep hearing about how many billions and trillions our elected officials are spending in our names, I thought it might be better to break down this figure on a more individual basis.

The IRS reported 78,792,000 individual returns filed in 2008. If you take Congress' $1 billion per hour and "redistribute" that spending across each taxpaying American, that will require $12.69 from each taxpayer every hour.

$12.69 x 24 hours = $304.56 per day.

$304.56 per day x 365 days = $111,164.40 per person.

So if you'll kindly break out your checkbook, we can get all this taken care of.
