Looking at Obama's First 100 Days

The video does a good job contrasting Obama's hollow campaign rhetoric with his irresponsible actions as president. Jenn of the Jungle makes an even more detailed list:

Porkulous, fake Presidential seal, Mr. Teleprompter man, 9/11 remake for some souvenir photos? Bowing to King Abdullah, calling America arrogant, The Apology Tour '09. "No More Earmarks- Except these 9000. White House to control census, the "smart grid", .0027% budget cuts for Cabinet...

...Bill Richardson, Timothy Geithner, Annette Nazareth, Caroline Atkinson, Louis Susman, Nancy Killefer, Daschle, Power,Carrion

...Closing GITMO, total subversion of the free market, this year's budget deficit: $1.5 trillion+. Unaware of Tea Parties my arse. PASS STIMULUS NOW, while I take a 3 day vacation. Releasing CIA memos, 60 minutes... "Are you punch drunk?" No lobbyist, except THESE 17. NO Jesus allowed. hicago has yet to recoup the $1.74 million cost of President Obama's victory celebration in Grant Park...
Check out her post, there's MUCH more! President Obama has been VERY busy in the past few months. It takes a lot of work to undermine America in order to remake it into the kind of government-run communist utopia he believes is "good for everybody."

Obama's $100 Million "Spending Cut" Illustrated

(h/t: Jawa Report)
Don't get me wrong, I think reducing $100 million from the federal budget is a good thing. But cutting a mere 0.0025% of a $3.5 TRILLION dollar budget is hard to grasp until you get a graphic representation of the actual scale involved. Especially when you consider the $8 billion in earmarks contained in the omnibus spending bill was called "a tiny part of the budget" by Obama spokesman Robert Gibbs

JENNIFER LOVEN, AP: The $100 million target figure that the president talked about today with the Cabinet, can you explain why so small? I know he talked about—you know, you add up 100 million and 100 million, and eventually, you get somewhere, but it would take an awfully long time to add up hundred million (inaudible) in the deficit. Why not target a bigger number?

GIBBS: (Smiling) Well, I think only in Washington, D.C. is a hundred million dollars…

LOVEN: The deficit’s very large. It’s not a joke.

GIBBS: No, I’m…

LOVEN: The deficit’s giant. $100 million really is only a step.

GIBBS: But no joke.

LOVEN: You sound like you’re joking about it, but it’s not funny.

GIBBS: I’m not making jokes about it. I’m being completely sincere that only in Washington, D.C. is $100 million not a lot of money. It is where I’m from. It is where I grew up. And I think it is for hundreds of millions of Americans.

LOVEN: The point is it’s not a very big portion of the deficit.

TAPPER: You were talking about an appropriations bill a few weeks ago about $8 billion being minuscule—$8 billion in earmarks. We were talking about that and you said that that…

GIBBS: Well, in terms of—in…(CROSSTALK)

TAPPER: ...$100 million is a lot but $8 billion is small?
A reader at Instapundit put it another way:
"Since the President is selling this as a typical household cutting costs, 100 million dollars of a nominal 1 trillion dollar budget is equivalent of a family making $75,000 forgoing two cups of coffee IN A YEAR. Some budget choices."

Good riddance, Arlen Specter

Today, Benedict Arnold Arlen Specter made it official. He's switching from the GOP to the Democrat party. He's been a RINO (Republican In Name Only) for a long time, I guess it's only fair he join their ranks. But it's irritating in light of the fact that, as recently as last month, he said he absolutely wouldn't switch parties.

"I am staying a Republican because I think I have an important role, a more important role, to play there. The United States very desperately needs a two-party system. That’s the basis of politics in America. I’m afraid we are becoming a one-party system, with Republicans becoming just a regional party with so little representation of the northeast or in the middle atlantic. I think as a governmental matter, it is very important to have a check and balance. That’s a very important principle in the operation of our government. In the constitution on Separation of powers." – Arlen Specter, March 17th, 2009
Thanks a pantload, Mr. Specter. You changed allegiance and gave Democrats a filibuster-proof majority, just in time for Obama's plan to force nationalized healthcare up America's collective backsides. What a coincidence.

Don’t let the door hit you on the way out.

Obama crowned with thorns for his First 100 Days

obama_thetruth
The cult of Obama just gets weirder and weirder.

On his 100th day in office, President Obama will be "crowned" in messianic imagery at New York City's Union Square.

Artist Michael D'Antuono's painting "The Truth" – featuring Obama with his arms outstretched and wearing a crown of thorns upon his head – will be unveiled on April 29 at the Square's South Plaza.

According to a statement released about the portrait, "The 30" x 54" acrylic painting on canvas depicts President Obama appearing much like Jesus Christ on the Cross: atop his head, a crown of thorns; behind him, the dark veil being lifted (or lowered) on the Presidential Seal. But is he revealing or concealing, and is he being crucified or glorified?"

Even the title of the piece, "The Truth," suggests a play on biblical themes, as Jesus said in John 14:6, "I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me."
I wonder if the painting will feature Obama's real footwear: clown shoes.

UPDATE: It appears the artist has changed his mind about the big event surrounding his deification of Dear Leader.
Painter Michael D'Antuono has cancelled the planned public unveiling of his latest work "The Truth" at NYC's Union Square Park on President Obama's 100th day in office due to overwhelming public outrage. The artist's decision was based in part on thousands of emails and phone calls; online blogs and other public commentary received in the first 48 hours following its release.
No word yet on whether roving bands of angry Christians will be burning cities and beheading "infidels" to express their outrage over the insult to Christianity.

Democrats censor global warming debate at Congressional hearing

Perhaps this is what Al Gore means when he says "the debate is over" on global warming: he refuses to debate the facts.

UK's Lord Christopher Monckton, a former science advisor to Prime Minister Margaret Thatcher, claimed House Democrats have refused to allow him to appear alongside former Vice President Al Gore at a high profile global warming hearing on Friday April 24, 2009 at 10am in Washington. Monckton told Climate Depot that the Democrats rescinded his scheduled joint appearance at the House Energy and Commerce hearing on Friday. Monckton said he was informed that he would not be allowed to testify alongside Gore when his plane landed from England Thursday afternoon.

“The House Democrats don't want Gore humiliated, so they slammed the door of the Capitol in my face,” Monckton told Climate Depot in an exclusive interview. “They are cowards.”

According to Monckton, Rep. Joe Barton (R-Texas), Ranking Member on the Energy & Commerce Committee, had invited him to go head to head with Gore and testify at the hearing on Capitol Hill Friday. But Monckton now says that when his airplane from London landed in the U.S. on Thursday, he was informed that the former Vice-President had “chickened out” and there would be no joint appearance. Gore is scheduled to testify on Friday to the Subcommittee on Energy and the Environment's fourth day of hearings on the American Clean Energy and Security Act of 2009. The hearing will be held in 2123 Rayburn House Office Building.

According to Monckton, House Democrats told the Republican committee staff earlier this week that they would be putting forward an unnamed 'celebrity' as their star witness Friday at a multi-panel climate hearing examining the House global warming bill. The "celebrity" witness turned out to be Gore. Monckton said the GOP replied they would respond to the Democrats' "celebrity" with an unnamed "celebrity" of their own. But Monckton claims that when the Democrats were told who the GOP witness would be, they refused to allow him to testify alongside Gore.

“The Democrats have a lot to learn about the right of free speech under the US Constitution. Congress Henry Waxman's (D-CA) refusal to expose Al Gore's sci-fi comedy-horror testimony to proper, independent scrutiny by the House minority reeks of naked fear,” Monckton said from the airport Thursday evening.

“Waxman knows there has been no 'global warming' for at least a decade. Waxman knows there has been seven and a half years' global cooling. Waxman knows that, in the words of the UK High Court judge who condemned Gore's mawkish movie as materially, seriously, serially inaccurate, 'the Armageddon scenario that he depicts is not based on any scientific view,'” Monckton explained.
“The skeptic does not mean him who doubts, but him who investigates or researches, as opposed to him who asserts and thinks that he has found.” ~Miguel de Unamuno

Janet Napolitano is doing a heckuva job!

diversitylane_suspicious

Janet Napolitano, President Obama's Homeland Security Secretary has been busy displaying the traits for which the president no doubt hired her. Last week, she suggested that conservatives and American veterans might be terrorists.

A footnote in the report, "Rightwing Extremism: Current Economic and Political Climate Fueling Resurgence in Radicalization and Recruitment," said that while there is no specific information that domestic right-wing terrorists are planning acts of violence, such acts could come from unnamed "rightwing extremists" concerned about illegal immigration, abortion, increasing federal power and restrictions on firearms -- and singled out returning war veterans as susceptible to recruitment.
Additionally, she has publicly displayed her ignorance regarding how the 9/11 terrorists got into the country.
Ottawa was rushing to defend its border security on Tuesday amid a diplomatic scuffle with the U.S., which erupted after Washington’s homeland security chief suggested that the 9-11 terrorists entered the U.S. through Canada.

U.S. Department of Homeland Security Secretary Janet Napolitano made the comments during a media interview earlier this week, much to the chagrin of Canadians on both sides of the border.

In recent years, Ottawa has invested a great deal of effort into dispelling perceptions among Americans that Canada’s border is an easy entry point for terrorists planning attacks on U.S. soil.

“Unfortunately, misconceptions arise on something as fundamental as where the 9-11 terrorists came from,” said Michael Wilson, Canada’s ambassador in Washington.

“As the 9-11 commission reported in 2004, all of the 9-11 terrorists arrived in the United States from outside North America. They flew to major U.S. airports. They entered the U.S. with documents issued by the United States government and no 9-11 terrorists came from Canada.”
Criminalizing dissent? Check!

Demonizing American veterans? Check!

Insulting our allies? Check!

I don't know about you, but I'm feeling safer already! Thanks, President Obama!

Follow-up: Tax Day Tea Parties A Nationwide Success!

Yesterday's protests were a phenomenal success. With no central planning, no celebrity figure to rally around, regular working Americans around the country gathered to express their disgust with the government's increasing irresponsibility and arrogance.

Here's just another sampling of the 500+ events nationwide. Numbers are still being calculated, but I'd bet there were well over a million Americans attending yesterday's demonstrations against big government, instead advocating less taxes and spending and more individual responsibility and liberty.

It now seems President Obama did know something about the Tea Party protests after all. And he had a ready-made response: "What more do you want? I've already cut taxes."

Obliquely answering the hundreds of "tea bag" protests around the country on tax day, President Barack Obama said Wednesday that he's already delivered the most progressive tax cut in history, with 95% of families getting a tax break in every paycheck.

Americans need a "government that is working to create jobs and opportunity for them, rather than simply giving more and more to those at the very top in the false hope that wealth will trickle down," Obama said.

In his remarks, Obama decried the use of taxes as a political wedge issue "to scare people into supporting policies that increased the burden on working people instead of helping them live their dreams."

"We start from the simple premise that we should reduce the tax burden on working people, while helping Americans go to college, own a home, raise a family, start a business and save for retirement," Obama said.
First of all, I wonder why he's demonizing "trickle-down economics"? He's advocating a system of government confiscation and redistribution of wealth, effectively "trickling down" from the government to people who haven't worked to earn the money.

Secondly, I wonder just who exactly is getting their tax burden reduced? I got nailed even more on my taxes this year, thanks to the weasels in Washington. I've been laid off twice in the past two years and basically now must run my own business in order to freelance and make ends meet until I can find another full-time job. Yet I can't get a loan to replace my six year old computer nor have my taxes been reduced. Last year, my federal income tax rate was 14.88%, this year it's 15.32%! Obama thinks he cut taxes? Maybe, but not for us working Americans! I guess the tax cuts he's speaking of are going to ACORN, unions, and illegal immigrants.

Here's something CNN didn't show you yesterday: the Tea Party crowd wielded the cluebat on hack reporter Susan Roesgen after witnessing her contemptuous and biased coverage of the Tea Party movement.

Tax Day Tea Party 2009

tea-party-map.jpg

Today, John Galt files his 1040: it's the Tax Day Tea Party! Over 500 separate demonstrations in all 50 states, where taxpayers are outraged at the irresponsible spending and the unAmerican direction in which this new Obama administration is taking our country in just the first 100 days.

wapo_obamabudget

The media is reporting that President Obama is "unaware" of today's Tea Party protests. Umm, yeah, right. The largest taxpayer protest in American history, carried out by supposedly dangerous right wing extremists, and the President of the United States wants us to believe he has no idea what's going on? How stupid does he think we are? Wait, don't answer that...52% percent of Americans fall squarely within his assumption. Perhaps His Highness thinks we should all eat cake?

Just a few months ago, he was saying "They sent us here to usher in a new era of responsibility in Washington -- to start living within our means again, and being straight with them about where their tax dollars are going, and empowering them with the information they need to hold all of us, their representatives, accountable." But today, he's not only forcing America to live outside our means, he's unaware that we're unhappy with his feckless plan. And to think, liberals used to call President George W. Bush clueless!

The growing outrage over Obama's harebrained Democrat-led plan is precisely why he took to the airwaves yesterday, to pander to Americans about how he wants to tear down America and rebuild it on the shifting sand of socialism. Ponies and rainbows for everyone who'll jump on the bandwagon! But today, he's pretending he doesn't know what's going on. I wonder if he's got his fingers in his ears, saying "la la la la, can't hear you, can't hear you!"

Maybe Obama will notice what's going on in cities like Cincinnati, OH...

...and Denver, CO...

...and Landsing, MI...
Lansing_TeaParty

...and Nashville, TN...

...and Oklahoma City, OK...

...and here in Dallas, TX, where events were also scheduled in the metro areas of Arlington, Burleson, Carrollton, Denton, Fort Worth, Frisco, Hurst, McKinney, Plano, Richardson, Rockwall, Sherman, Farmersville, Rowlett, Midlothian, Southlake, and Weatherford.

Meanwhile, CNN displays their bias by sending out openly contemptuous reporters who are not there to report the news but to sanctimoniously grill conservative protesters and shamelessly recite Obama talking points.

Neal Boortz has a great idea which epitomizes the very reason why so many people are beginning to get fed up with the government and its confiscatory tax policy:

Since today is the deadline for filing your taxes, walk up to a coworker and ask them how much income tax they paid for 2008. They won't know. There may be a few exceptions. VERY few. For the most part you're going to get some idiotic answer like "I didn't have to pay anything! I'm getting some back!" This is just exactly the way the government wants it. The whole idea of withholding was created to hide how much of your money the government takes out of your paycheck.
Don't just express your anger today at government spending and dishonest taxes. Stay angry. Keep holding your elected representatives responsible for their ill-conceived plans. And check out better ideas like the Fair Tax.

Here's a Tea Party invite from "Thomas Paine" (Bob Basso)...

Navy sharpshooters exterminate Somali Muslim pirates, rescue U.S. captain

Good news!

U.S. Navy snipers opened fire and killed three pirates holding an American captain at gunpoint, delivering the skipper unharmed and ending a five-day high-seas hostage drama on Easter Sunday.

The pirates were pointing AK-47s at Capt. Richard Phillips and he was in "imminent danger" of being killed when the commander of the nearby USS Bainbridge made the split-second decision to order his men to shoot, Vice Adm. Bill Gortney said.

Phillips' crew, who said they had escaped the pirates after he offered himself as a hostage, erupted in cheers aboard their ship docked in Mombasa, Kenya. Some waved an American flag and fired flares in celebration. A lawn sign in the captain's hometown of Underhill, Vermont that read "Pray for Captain Phillips' release and safe return home" was changed to read, "Capt. Phillips rescued and safe."

The U.S. Navy's 5th Fleet said Phillips, 53, was resting comfortably after a medical exam on the San Diego-based USS Boxer in the Indian Ocean off the coast of Somalia. Gortney said the captain had been "tied up inside the lifeboat" over much of the ordeal.
I'm VERY relieved that Capt. Phillips has been rescued from Muslim terrorists (like the "Somali pirates" who celebrated the Muslim feast of Eid al-Fitr during a similar hijacking last year).

Conversely, I'm disgusted with the Associated Press for trying to spin this rescue as being under direct orders from President Obama.

The AP story's wording is intentionally careful:
Administration officials say President Barack Obama approved the military operation that rescued a U.S. captain held hostage by Somali pirates.
That is correct. President Obama approved the Pentagon's request for military resources. And he deserves credit for allowing the military to do their jobs and for not issuing orders which would have prevented them from seizing an opportunity to rescue Capt. Phillips. But that is very different from issuing the order for an active rescue attempt, which is what AP's puffery was alleging earlier today:
The officials say Obama ordered the Defense Department to use military resources to rescue Richard Phillips from a lifeboat off the Somali coast.
Many thanks to our American military! And welcome home, Captain Phillips!

Democrat priorities of the week

I've been too busy to blog this week. But the Democrats have been busy, too. So let's catch up, shall we?

President Obama made time to visit a mosque in Istanbul but refused an invitation from France's President Nicolas Sarkozy to visit 9,387 American soldiers buried at Normandy, countering that he didn't want to offend Germany by doing so. Offending Americans, however, seems just dandy to The Lightworker.

Respect; you're doing it wrong.
---
President Obama violated his oath to "...preserve, protect and defend the Constitution of the United States" when he surrendered American sovereignty to a European consortium, giving them "regulation and oversight to all systemically important financial institutions, instruments, and markets [including] systemically important hedge funds."

If the FSB, in its international wisdom, considers an institution or company "systemically important," it may regulate and over see it. This provision extends and internationalizes the proposals of the Obama administration to regulate all firms, in whatever sector of the economy that it deems to be "too big to fail."

The FSB is also charged with "implementing . . . tough new principles on pay and compensation and to support sustainable compensation schemes and the corporate social responsibility of all firms."

That means that the FSB will regulate how much executives are to be paid and will enforce its idea of corporate social responsibility at "all firms."

The head of the Financial Stability Forum, the precursor to the new FSB, is Mario Draghi, Italy's central bank president. In a speech on Feb. 21, 2009, he gave us clues to his thinking. He noted that "the progress we have made in revising the global regulatory framework . . . would have been unthinkable just months ago."
Duty; you're doing it wrong.
---
President Obama votes "present" by refusing to make any public statements about the Somali pirates who have taken an American sailor hostage.
Since taking office in January, the president has proved willing in many cases to field off-the-cuff questions from reporters at the close of events at the White House, even on matters differing from his focus that day.

But not in this case.

When reporters asked the president directly about the incident on Thursday, he demurred. Instead, he stayed on his message of the day, saying: "Guys, we're talking about housing right now."
Leadership; you're doing it wrong.
---
Secretary of State Hillary Clinton followed Dear Leader's punch-drunk example when she giggled repeatedly when asked about the hostage situation.

Gravitas; you're doing it wrong.
---
Meanwhile, the U.S. Congressional Black Caucus follows Obama's stellar examples by visiting Cuba and fawning over Castro.
Fidel Castro, the longtime Communist leader of Cuba, met with visiting members of the U.S. Congressional Black Caucus on Tuesday, a day after his brother, Raul, who succeeded him as president, did the same, according to a U.S. official in Havana.

U.S. Rep. Barbara Lee, at left with Reps. Marcia Fudge and Mel Watt, was among those who met with Castro.

The meeting with Fidel Castro, 82, comes amid speculation that the United States is considering a shift in relations with the Communist nation that sits just 90 miles from the Florida Keys.

Upon returning to the United States, members of the caucus said it's time to consider an end to the trade embargo and other diplomatic restrictions placed on Cuba for the past five decades.

"Yes, we have history. We have good history and not-so-good history," said Rep. Laura Richardson, D-California. "But the point is, it's history, and we need to move forward."

Three members of the caucus were visiting the Latin American School of Medicine, where students from nations including the United States study, when they were invited to meet with the senior leader.

"Former President Fidel Castro is very engaging, very energetic," said caucus Chairwoman Barbara Lee, also a Democrat from California. "Our conclusion is, given the new direction in our foreign policy, that it's time to look at a new direction in our policy toward Cuba.
Makes sense, right? We're ushering in a new era of big-government socialism, we're ceding control of America to European socialists; might as well go ahead and get in bed with a brutal communist dictator, eh?

Principles; you're doing it wrong.
---
Meanwhile, President Obama demonstrates that although he believes auto CEOs shouldn't be allowed to fly their own private jets to Washington, it's just fine for him to have a chef flown 860 miles just to make him some pizza. Nice that he's so serious about "going green", eh?
Chris Sommers, 33, jetted into Washington from St Louis, Missouri, on Thursday with a suitcase of dough, cheese and pans to to prepare food for the Obamas and their staff.

He had apparently been handpicked after the President had tasted his pizzas on the campaign trail last autumn.
Hypocrisy; you're doing it right.

Gun Pr0n: the most powerful rifle in the world

Ladies and gentlemen, the .557 Tyrannosaur.

This rifle is made by A-Square, Inc. based upon their Hannibal rifle platform, and it fires a .557 cal. cartridge. The 750 grain Barnes Solid Projectile moves at 2,460 feet/second, generating over 10,180 foot-pounds of energy (just for comparison, a .44 Magnum firing a 240 grain bullet generates approximately 1,180 fps. of muzzle energy). And 10 rounds for this beast will set you back about $150.

From the looks of this video, it'll set you back a bit more than that...

A song for President Obama

No, I'm not referring to those creepy Kool-Aid driven hymns we heard during Barack Obama's campaign. The song I'm referring to is "Megalomaniac," penned by alternative rock band Incubus as a diatribe against President George W. Bush. But if you read the lyrics, they're much more applicable to the current occupant of the Oval Office.

I hear you on the radio
You permeate my screen, it's unkind but
If I met you in a scissor fight
I'd cut off both your wings on principle alone
On principle alone

Hey megalomaniac!
You're no Jesus!
Yeah, you're no f*cking Elvis!
Wash your hands clean of yourself, baby and
Step down.
Step down.
Step down!

If I were your appendages
I'd hold open your eyes
So you would see
That all of us are heaven sent
There was never meant to be only one
To be the only one

Hey megalomaniac!
You're no Jesus!
Yeah, you're no f*cking Elvis!
Wash your hands clean of yourself, baby, and
Step down.
Step down.

President Obama bows to Saudi king

obama_bows
As part of this week's G20 meetings, President Obama turned more than a few heads when he chose to genuflect before Saudi Arabia's King Abdullah. In comparison, he did not bow when he met England's Queen Elizabeth.

Gravitas: you're doing it wrong.

(Obama's dhimmi obeisance is approximately 56 seconds in)

A few thoughts on diplomatic protocol...

  • Miss Manners: "One does not bow or curtsey to foreign monarchs because the gesture signifies recognition of [the monarch's] power over [his] subjects."

  • World Net Daily: "The U.S. State Department's office of protocol did not respond to a WND request for the proper etiquette for two heads of state meeting, but the online Travel Etiquette website for Saudi Arabia said handshakes are common greetings between members of the same sex."

  • Trent Reznor: "Bow down before the one you serve. You're going to get what you deserve."

Virgil Brigman back on the air

For the past several months, I've seen my Verizon DSL internet connection slowly deteriorate into something that made me long for dialup. And after new Category 5e cables didn't fix the problem, I figured my old Westell modem must be causing the poor connection.

And it was.

Long story short, and after unsuccessfully trying to install another brand of modem yesterday, I went back to Micro Center today and bought a Netgear DSL modem/router. Now I'm finally able to see the internet at the proper speed again.

Suffice it to say, I'll be getting all caught up on the news again and aggravating liberals in no time!
